“Hearts to Fireworks”
Kids In Need is happy to present its Hearts to Fireworks fund raiser. Now is your chance to start the year by making a tax deductible donation to one of chicagolands best up and coming charities.
This year KIN is honored to welcome DuPage County Board Chairman Robert J. Schillerstrom to the effort. Schillerstrom has always been a community minded leader, and has lent great support to KIN since its founding. Now he is serving as the fund raising drive’s honorary chairman.
The Hearts to Fireworks drive will run from Valentine’s Day to Independence Day. This is the fi rst time for this particular fund raiser, and KIN is hoping supporters will make it one of the best. Donors can make either a one time payment or a monthly payment to reach a stated pledge. Both checks and credit cards are accepted.
The Need Is Great...
Each year, through no fault of their own, tens of thousands of children find themselves in desperate situations because they are stripped of their parent(s). The shock of such an experience can have a profound psychological effect on anyone, especially a child.
Surprisingly these circumstances, most often caused by a medical emergency/tragedy or legal/court ruling against the parent(s) are not bound by the inner city limits, but occur in every city and town in our nation.
We are all aware of the ever growing social circumstances resulting from the single parent family; however, little attention has been focused on the families where the single parent is afflicted with a prolonged illness, is suddenly killed, or is incarcerated and there is no next of kin to care for their child(ren).
Accomplishments
For the past three years Kin has provided 30 scholarships for DuPage county students to get started in college. They have also established a short term care facility in Addison, benefi ting social service agencies in DuPage County.
Our Goals
We need your support to continue funding for our scholarship program and help to expand our housing facilities to additional locations through out DuPage County.
