Scholarship Recipients
Erica
Vurpillat is one of York High School’s hardest working and
most accomplished students. She has been named a National Merit
Scholar, marched as a member of the band, and has volunteered to
work for elderly. Erica has excelled in and out of the classroom.
After losing her mother to breast cancer, Erica would like to dedicate
her life to fi ghting the disease that claimed her mom. She has
been accepted to enroll at the University of Illinois, plans to
study as a gynecologist, and participate in cancer research.

Alex
McLeod will leave Lisle High School as one of its brightest leaders.
He was a captain on the football and wrestling teams, wrote for
his school newspaper, and managed an academic record that made him
a member of the National Honor Society. His performance in math
and science was so strong, Michigan State University has accepted
him into its Academic Scholars program and the prestigious Lyman-Briggs
School of Natural Sciences. Alex lost his father due to complications
from undiagnosed acid reflex disease. He said the experience made
him feel helpless, but that could change since he intends to become
a surgeon.
