Caring
for kids at their absolute moment of crisis.
Why Kids In Need Needs Your Help | The Alarming Facts | The Need Is Great | How Kids In Need Works | What You
Can Do

Why
Kids In Need Needs Your Help
The Kids In Need program is crucial in order to prevent further
cases of desperate children with no one to turn to. These children
are not orphans, drug abusers, or juvenile delinquents. They are
not disruptive or dysfunctional. But they need our help - and yours.
Currently
there are no other organizations in the Chicago land area that provide
similar types of assistance as Kids In Need provides.
The
Alarming Facts
Each year, through no fault of their own, tens of thousands of children
find themselves in desperate situations because they are stripped
of their parent(s). the shock of such an experience can have a profound
psychological effect on anyone - especially a child.
Surprisingly
these circumstances - most often caused by a medical emergency/tragedy
or a legal/court ruling against the parent(s) - are not bound by
the inner city limits, but occur in every city and town in our nation.
We
are all aware of the ever-growing social circumstances resulting
from the single-parent family; however, little attention has been
focused on the families where the single parent is afflicted with
a prolonged illness, is suddenly killed, or is incarcerated - and
there is no next of kin to care for the their children.
The
Need Is Great
According to the American Public Welfare Association, the population
of children in substitute care (i.e. DCFS) is growing 33 times faster
than the U.S. child population in general. Agencies like DCFS are
receiving an unprecedented demand for its services - averaging hundreds
of telephone calls and requests every day - regarding abandoned
neglected, or abused children.
The
situation is not hopeless. Kids In Need works with state authorities
and related organizations to provide immediate comfort and care
to children who have lost the only element of security they have
in our society: their parent(s).
Private
organizations like Kids In Need - supported by a strong charitable
element - can complement and work closely with our public agencies
and help keep kids from suffering undue and unnecessary distress.
How
Kids In Need Works
When children require immediate housing needs and professional counsel,
trained Kids In Need social workers - on-call 24 hours a day, seven
days a week - will be there to soften the blow. These children will
be guided through the transition to a social service agency such
as DCFS - as soon as the agency has available resources to handle
cases - or until arrangements can be made with the next of kin.
If
parentless children are in need of education assistance, emergency
medical care, or legal representation, Kids In Need will provide
whatever support is necessary to help them when they need it most.
